Energy Therapy

Energy therapy is a term used to refer to a variety of alternative and complementary treatments based on the use, modification, or manipulation of energy fields. According to Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Nobel laureate in Medicine: “In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy.”

The language of energy is one your body already speaks and understands. The purpose of energy therapies can be broadly defined as the healing of mental or physical disorders by rebalancing the energy fields in the human body or by drawing upon spiritual energies or forces for such healing. Energy can be managed to more effectively deal with stress, reduce anxiety and free yourself of many ailments.  Using energy you can optimize the body’s natural capacities to heal itself and to stay healthy.

What are energy therapies? To understand that, you really need to understand that everything in the world is made up of energy. This has been proven by quantum physics – when the atom was split it was found to be made up of particles of energy that are constantly vibrating. The speed of vibration of the energy determines how solid any given thing appears. Our bodies are made up of energy that is vibrating quite slowly, because to us they appear quite solid, but a rock is made up of energy that is vibrating much more slowly because it appears extremely solid. A filmy material is made up of energy that is vibrating quite fast, so it appears light and floating.

Energies from the Sun and the Earth penetrate every cell of the human body and give substance to your energy body.  Your energy body becomes a distinct, self regulating system, continually interacting with the energies around it.  Your energy body is always adjusting the energies available to it to restore balance.

With energy therapy, balance is the state that we are always trying to move toward, a state of internal stability and harmony with other energies.  At the same time, our interaction with our environment, and all of life, are upsetting this balance.  We are always moving toward balance and always moving away from that balance just by living.  When our body’s energy system is chronically out of balance, or when several systems are not in harmony with one another, our body does not work as well.

Symptoms of Low Energy:

  • Fatigue
  • Low metabolism
  • Depression/Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Inability to summon enthusiasm
  • Lack of interest in sex
  • Poor concentration
  • Apathy

Your body is designed to heal itself. The ability of the body to maintain health and overcome illness is an amazing feat. In today’s world there is a lot of interference with this natural capacity, so your conscious involvement in your own health is required to truly prosper. Electrical, electromagnetic and more subtle energies give your body life and are the foundation of health.  All physical disorders start first in our energy system, beginning in the emotional or mental bodies, moving down into the etheric (which is the subtle body closest to and permeating the physical body) and then appearing on the physical level as symptoms of mental, emotional, or physical dis-ease.

There are many forms of energy therapy with a wide variety of styles and disciplines.  While studying different modalities it became apparent to me that although they all have some differences, they also have many similarities.  Some therapies use specific hand positions, places on the body where you are supposed to touch to activate healing, while others tell us not to touch the body at all. Some modalities believe that you have to be initiated and have a “lineage” and still others say you can learn all you need to know over the internet.

The one thing that is common in all energy modalities is the belief that healing comes from a connection with some source of universal energy.  The belief that a universal life force resides in and around the body and is available to be called on for healing.  It is this universal energy that is connected to all living things that gives us the ability to do distance energy healing, meaning we can send the energy to someone across the hall or across the globe.

Energy therapy is a return to personal responsibility for health care, harmonizing with the forces of nature and returning to practices that are natural, non-invasive and familiar to the body, mind and spirit.
